Krochet Kids Peru

If you haven't heard of Krochet Kids yet, you need to look them up. They are a a company with an amazing story that builds into the lives of women and families in need through beenies and hats. Krochet Kids started with this group of friends who wanted to do something to give back. They decided to teach a few women in Uganda how to krochet, and developed a program that gives the women involved with the mission statement – to empower people to rise above poverty. What started with 5 women in Uganda has grown to over 150, and Krochet Kids has chosen to start similar programs in other parts of the world. I was fortunate to get to travel with them down to their new base in Lima, Peru to document the ground level start. Here are some photos of the area where the women they've brought into the KK family live:

The initial group of women were chosen, after an interview process to see if they're a good fit for the program and they were all so sweet. We went to their homes to get some photos of them in their environment. These were some of my favorite photos of the trip. Here is the initial family of Krochet Kids Peru:

Here are some photos back at the new base, in process of hearing everyone's story, for the KK team to share their hearts and mission, and some pics of the women in training:

I found it incredibly interesting visiting the yarn factory where they get the material for the beenies. The guys were testing out fabrics, choosing colors, and finding the best alpaca fur yarn!

Here are some photos I shot while driving around Lima.

Here's a little video Krochet Kids put together from the trip:

Blessings and peace to all of you as you walk the dream God has given you.
This is what happens when young people take the vision God has given them, and make it happen. Thank you for making the sacrifices and loving those who need so much.
God Bless

So that's what you were doing in Peru! They have a great story, and how wonderful that you are spreading the word. Awesome photos, of course! Of course I had to check out their web site and what do you know... the KK are from Spokane!

I am stoked you got to go and shoot with those guys. I have known them since they started making beanies and it was fun fun to watch where they have gone with it.
