WPPI and This Crazy Year
Posted on March 7, 2010
I head off to WPPI this morning (which is a photo trade show for all you non-photographers out there) and I’m so excited to hang with a bunch of my photo friends. It’s such a fun time. If you see me around, definitely come say hi and introduce yourself! I love meeting new people and coming home with new friends.
This is the start to a crazy busy month and then an even crazier year. I’ll be in Vegas this week, home for a three days filled with either photo shoots or engagement shoots, then I’m headed to Austin, TX for the SXSW music festival to shoot some photos of a bunch of bands. Then I’m traveling for a couple engagement shoots and soon enough weddings are starting up. I’ve booked some of the most incredible weddings that I’m really looking forward to this year with some amazing couples. I’ll be shooing in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Lake Tahoe, Baltimore, San Fancisco and more. It’s going to be a good year!
Here’s a shot of me and my wife, Lindsay. This was shot by Sherry-Lu at Jessica Claire’s workshop. Jessica had us as the subjects for the day and we were surrounded by 22 photographers. Looking forward to seeing Jessica’s photos and have loved getting shots from some of the other great photographers that were there:

Kaylee + Scott :: Engaged!
Posted on February 23, 2010
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Kaylee and Scott, whose wedding I’m shooting in Late May. They are the sweetest couple and had such a good time getting to know them better. Scott is from Austrailia and Kaylee is from Arizona and their wedding will be in Orange County. I mixed it up on this shoot switching between film and digital and love everything that came out. We had a stunning location and Kaylee and Scott aren’t so hard to look at either!
Here they are:

Valentine’s Day
Posted on February 13, 2010
To all you Valentine’s out there, this is a post to talk about being a Valentine. I actually don’t know what that means so I’m making up a definition. You always hear “be my valentine” and I’ve thought of that person as the person receiving. Sure, that can be true (and hopefully is) but the way I’m defining ‘being a Valentine’ is the doing, the loving, and the intentionality. My wife Lindsay and I have made a big effort to be ‘intentional’ with each other…intentional in a way so I make a big effort to act in ways and do things so she feels loved. At the same time, she’s trying to do the same with me. Of course we’re not perfect in these areas but even the effort of trying to do this has made a big difference in our marriage. I feel confident that I love her more today than I did when we got married and even more than a couple of months ago. She’s my Valentine and I’m hers.
I want to share something with you that might sound corny but it has been really cool. Before going to bed each night we take a bit of time to tell the other person something we really loved or appreciated about them that day. Again, might sound corny BUT it’s done something powerful. There are a lot of things we appreciate about our spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends that they might not know we appreciate. Being able to let him or her know that you notice his or her efforts has brought us closer. How can you be a Valentine to someone you love in your life?
So this Valentine’s Day, be a Valentine. Here’s a photo of me and mine with ours.

A Newport Beach Proposal
Posted on January 6, 2010
I really feel lucky and blessed to shoot photos of people for a living. It is so fun being a part of all these special times in different people’s lives. Shooting proposals is one of the most special times for me. There is so much emotion, surprise, romance, love and celebration. A good friend of mine proposed a couple days ago and I got to capture it.
Justin took Erica out for a nice dinner at the Cannery then commandeered a boat. They cruised around the Newport Bay for a bit then as they were almost back, he slowed the boat, got on a knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him as his wife. The restaurant in the background erupted with cheers from the diners. There were hugs, kisses and tears. Then Justin had all their friends and family waiting back up at the Cannery to celebrate. So special.
For you photographers out there, it was obviously dark and I shot these at 4000 ISO. Crazy what cameras can do now. Here are a couple shots from all that:

Congrats guys!! Can’t wait for your wedding.

A Winter Wedding Shoot
Posted on January 4, 2010
I absolutely love shooting weddings and different couples. I love shooting them on the beach, in fields, old ranches, southern plantations, in the rain, on a sunny day, or in the snow. This shoot of Phil and Rachel was out in wintery Colorado and absolutely love it. Both of them were the sweetest. I have to thank Stephanie Klasse for doing a gorgeous job on Rachel’s make-up. So fun to work with too!
I think you’re going to like these photos! Let me know what your thoughts. Would you want your wedding in the snow?

I couldn’t decide which I liked best out of these three so I put them all in. Slightly different angles but each has its own uniqueness.

I would love to hear your thoughts and comments! Happy New Year!!!

Laura + Ryan ::: Details & the Reception
Posted on December 22, 2009
I usually don’t share a ton of photos from receptions because my heart is really in creating fashionable portraits but I do love being a part of receptions. Most all couples who hire me are so fun and I have a blast photographing their receptions. The details for this particular wedding were absolutely spectacular. On top of looking like a good, rustic wedding, their reception was a great party. Tricia Fountaine is the one to thank for taking Laura’s vision and creating this beautiful reception. Here are some photos!

Laura + Ryan ::: Rainy Day Wedding in Santa Barbara
Posted on December 18, 2009
Like I said earlier, this was one of my favorite weddings of the year. What could have been a disaster (the pouring rain on a wedding day), ended up working out perfect. I loved the attitude of Laura in-particular. For a bride, many dream of this day their whole lives and rain could be the worst thing in the world. For Laura, she embraced the rain, was laughing and radiant in the storms.
My brother Patrick was my second shooter for the day and was set up with an all-star team. The details and flowers were done by the fabulous Tricia Fountaine, the Event was Dos Pueblos Ranch in Santa Barbara (you can find info on Tricia’s site), the great desert bar was put together by Enjoy Cupcakes and the day of coordination was done by Ashley at Toast Santa Barbara.
Here are some of my favorite portraits from their wedding:
