Valentine’s Day
Posted on February 13, 2010
To all you Valentine’s out there, this is a post to talk about being a Valentine. I actually don’t know what that means so I’m making up a definition. You always hear “be my valentine” and I’ve thought of that person as the person receiving. Sure, that can be true (and hopefully is) but the way I’m defining ‘being a Valentine’ is the doing, the loving, and the intentionality. My wife Lindsay and I have made a big effort to be ‘intentional’ with each other…intentional in a way so I make a big effort to act in ways and do things so she feels loved. At the same time, she’s trying to do the same with me. Of course we’re not perfect in these areas but even the effort of trying to do this has made a big difference in our marriage. I feel confident that I love her more today than I did when we got married and even more than a couple of months ago. She’s my Valentine and I’m hers.
I want to share something with you that might sound corny but it has been really cool. Before going to bed each night we take a bit of time to tell the other person something we really loved or appreciated about them that day. Again, might sound corny BUT it’s done something powerful. There are a lot of things we appreciate about our spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends that they might not know we appreciate. Being able to let him or her know that you notice his or her efforts has brought us closer. How can you be a Valentine to someone you love in your life?
So this Valentine’s Day, be a Valentine. Here’s a photo of me and mine with ours.

Family Photos ::: Stirling at 1 Year
Posted on February 4, 2010
This was the third time shooting photos of Stirling since his birth. It is really incredible the difference between each 4 month shoot. Stirling’s just started walking, has a few teeth and such a personality. Here are a few of my favorites from the afternoon:

Newborns!
Posted on February 3, 2010
My wife and I just had our baby less than 6 months ago and we’ve already forgotten how small he started out. Our little guy was only 6lbs 7oz which is tiny. I love getting to shoot families and newborns. It’s such a special time of life. Something I’ve created for families is photo packages that document pregnancy, newborn photos and then a couple different photo shoots up until one year then we put an album together. There is so much change in the first year and it’s fun to have that progression. Here’s my favorite photo from a recent newborn session.

Clayton James ::: 1.14.10
Posted on January 18, 2010
A little while back I posted maternity photos of Justin and Sandra, who are Lindsay and I’s really good friends. We have been SO excited for them to have their baby. There is this love for your own child the moment they come into this world that you can’t explain to someone, it is something you only get when they are your own. You fall in love with their little fingers and toes, and all the little funny newborn sounds, everything about them is perfect to you.
Sandra was such a rockstar during labor, and Justin was an amazing coach! Lindsay and I went to the hospital early in the morning on the 14th, and she had already been in labor for about 10 hours, so we thought that Clayton would be born soon after-wrong! He was born at 10:30pm, a 24 hour labor! We are so glad you are here Clayton! We can’t wait to raise our families together!

Colorado with Family
Posted on January 8, 2010
Lindsay and I headed out to Colorado for Christmas to spend some time with her family. I love being out there. We had a gorgeous white Christmas and I had to shoot a bunch of photos of my little boy. It was his first time seeing snow (don’t know if he cared but I did). All the little baby snow outfits are so cute. They have little ears on everything and Declan looked like a little bear cub. Loved it! I wanted to share some photos from our trip:

Mom and Dad out on a stroll with the little guy!

Really, does it get much cuter??

This face is a favorite of mine:

Grandpa here was teaching Declan to shoot people with water as they waited to get their Christmas meal. They got Lindsay pretty good! Loved it.

The Hayes Family

Do you ever shoot photos and just know there are going to be some great shots. It always helps having very good looking subjects, but let’s be serious. I think little Liam is one of the best looking little guys I’ve ever met. Jenny and Kevin aren’t so bad themselves either. I love these first couple shots of Liam:

Look at this one!

These two are film shots.

Introducing Mom and Dad. Also shot on film:

And on our way out, Kevin spotted this bobcat. This is in Irvine, CA. Crazy to see this guy. I want a pet bobcat!

Justin + Sandra
Posted on December 3, 2009
Justin and Sandra are really good friends of ours, pretty much family to us, and we are SO excited for them as they anticipate the birth of their son Clayton James. I love the cowboy hats because Justin is a country boy a heart who loves to hunt, fish, camp and all that stuff, and well Sandra just looks good in the hat, AND with a name like Clayton James you have to wonder if he will be some rockstar cowboy himself. You guys are going to be such great parents, the little guy has no idea how lucky he is to be born to parents that love each other so well. We are looking forward to raising our boys together. Only one more month!!

Missy, Chad and Lily
Posted on December 1, 2009
This is the time of year that I end up so busy and crazy that things like blog posts get left behind. I have around 10 different shoots to post so you can expect more frequent updates from here till Christmas. We’ll take the shoot of Missy, Chad and Lily to start out. First of all, how cute is little Lily?? Missy and Chad aren’t so bad themselves.
I came home from this shoot knowing that if I ever have a daughter, I will be such a sucker for her. Little girls melt my heart. As I was shooting photos of Missy and Chad, Lily wanted me to hold her. So I’m firing of photos with a 70-200 lens on my camera with one hand and in the other, this cute little 2 year old. At the end of the shoot she gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. I came home and told Lindsay I want a daughter at some point! I hope you love their photos as much as I do…
