WPPI and This Crazy Year
Posted on March 7, 2010
I head off to WPPI this morning (which is a photo trade show for all you non-photographers out there) and I’m so excited to hang with a bunch of my photo friends. It’s such a fun time. If you see me around, definitely come say hi and introduce yourself! I love meeting new people and coming home with new friends.
This is the start to a crazy busy month and then an even crazier year. I’ll be in Vegas this week, home for a three days filled with either photo shoots or engagement shoots, then I’m headed to Austin, TX for the SXSW music festival to shoot some photos of a bunch of bands. Then I’m traveling for a couple engagement shoots and soon enough weddings are starting up. I’ve booked some of the most incredible weddings that I’m really looking forward to this year with some amazing couples. I’ll be shooing in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Lake Tahoe, Baltimore, San Fancisco and more. It’s going to be a good year!
Here’s a shot of me and my wife, Lindsay. This was shot by Sherry-Lu at Jessica Claire’s workshop. Jessica had us as the subjects for the day and we were surrounded by 22 photographers. Looking forward to seeing Jessica’s photos and have loved getting shots from some of the other great photographers that were there:

Caitlin + Steve ::: Engaged!
Posted on March 4, 2010
Caitlin and Steve are the sweetest. Steve flew down from Napa for the engagement shoot out in Redlands and we had such a good time. Caitlin brought a couple of her grandmother’s old suitcases and inside of them, found a couple of her old hats! They worked perfect for the shoot.
This first shot, I love. I brought my old manual focus Hasselblad which I thought would be appropriate for their engagement shoot. So glad I did. All of the square, black and white photos are from that camera. Hope you like them. Enjoy!

Polaroid ::: Caitlin + Steve
Posted on March 2, 2010
I was fortunate enough to spend the afternoon in Redlands with Caitlin and Steve and wandered around the old town shooting their engagement photos. As I’m waiting to get some of my film back, here’s a polaroid from their shoot:

Kaylee and Scott ::: A Couple More
Posted on February 26, 2010
I was waiting on one more roll of film when I made the last post and just got impatient. I just scanned this last one in and had to do a second post. These shots are straight scans. I’ve done nothing to them and love them how they are. Hope you do too!

Kaylee + Scott :: Engaged!
Posted on February 23, 2010
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Kaylee and Scott, whose wedding I’m shooting in Late May. They are the sweetest couple and had such a good time getting to know them better. Scott is from Austrailia and Kaylee is from Arizona and their wedding will be in Orange County. I mixed it up on this shoot switching between film and digital and love everything that came out. We had a stunning location and Kaylee and Scott aren’t so hard to look at either!
Here they are:

Valentine’s Day
Posted on February 13, 2010
To all you Valentine’s out there, this is a post to talk about being a Valentine. I actually don’t know what that means so I’m making up a definition. You always hear “be my valentine” and I’ve thought of that person as the person receiving. Sure, that can be true (and hopefully is) but the way I’m defining ‘being a Valentine’ is the doing, the loving, and the intentionality. My wife Lindsay and I have made a big effort to be ‘intentional’ with each other…intentional in a way so I make a big effort to act in ways and do things so she feels loved. At the same time, she’s trying to do the same with me. Of course we’re not perfect in these areas but even the effort of trying to do this has made a big difference in our marriage. I feel confident that I love her more today than I did when we got married and even more than a couple of months ago. She’s my Valentine and I’m hers.
I want to share something with you that might sound corny but it has been really cool. Before going to bed each night we take a bit of time to tell the other person something we really loved or appreciated about them that day. Again, might sound corny BUT it’s done something powerful. There are a lot of things we appreciate about our spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends that they might not know we appreciate. Being able to let him or her know that you notice his or her efforts has brought us closer. How can you be a Valentine to someone you love in your life?
So this Valentine’s Day, be a Valentine. Here’s a photo of me and mine with ours.

Ryan + Holly ::: Film
Posted on January 13, 2010
On photo shoots and weddings, I always have a couple different cameras with me. My main camera shoots digitally, then the several other cameras I use all shoot film. I shot all of these on 3200 Illford film because I wanted some good grain. They’re similar to the shots in my last post but I think they have a different feel. What shots do you like better? What’s your preference between film and digital?

And here are my favorite Polaroids from the day. Shot on an older Hasselblad camera of mine.

Ryan + Holly ::: Engaged
Posted on January 11, 2010
When Ryan and Holly came to me with the idea for their engagement shoot, a big smile crept on my face. I love it when couples have a vision for fashion and creativity. They wanted to model their shoot after a spread in W Magazine and I ran with some ideas. Holly is in school for fashion design and did all her styling for the shoot. Ryan is stylish himself so he pulled some clothes out of his usual wardrobe. So excited for their wedding in July!
I shot this on a couple different cameras using both film and digital to get various looks and feels. I’ll be posting the film shots tomorrow and you can see the difference. Let me know your thoughts on this shoot!
